Effects of packaging cutter February 11, 2021

There are various stations in packaging machines, which are used extensively in many different sectors, and equipment used in these stations according to the needs. One of the most important of these stations is the station that supplies the bobbin, that is, the bag, to be packed. Cutter blades and springs in bag dispenser stations are the two most important elements of these stations.
In these stations, two knives, one movable and the other fixed, form a set. Here, the task of the blades is to unwind from the bobbin and cut the incoming package to the desired size according to the product. The knives working mutually in high-speed operation of the machines that produce fast moving consumer goods are very susceptible to wear and breakage. The most important factors in the selection of the cutting blade material used are that it is suitable for contact with food and resistant to abrasion.
Although there is no widespread research in the literature, Tang et al. Investigated the hardening and cutting times by taking into account the high hardness of AISI D2 material, close to 60 HRC hardness value. As a result, they concluded that the hardness of the part has a tremendous effect on wear. It has been found that the combination of abrasive, adhesive and diffusion wear is responsible for the wear of PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) materials at a hardness of 40 - 60 HRC. They emphasized that sharp edges are damaged by high temperatures and high mechanical loads [1].
